Oeps! As you might know Speedy Racing was testing the 2007 C8 Spyder GT2R at Paul Ricard during the official Le Mans Series testsesion. But today it completly burned down!

LMS Paul Ricard Test Days - Monday afternoon session halted

The final session at Paul Ricard started at 14:00 on Monday, shortly after the teams had enjoyed their lunch. Shortly after the session had started it was the Van Merksteijn Motorsport Porsche RS Spyder that improved its lap time, bringing it to 1:43.820.

Just before half past three the session was red flagged though as the Speedy Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R caught fire in the last corner. Due to the strong wind the car was quickly completely engulfed in flames and completely destroyed. Andrea Chiesa managed to get out just before the cockpit was destroyed by the fire and returned to the pitlane shocked, with a black face.

After the track was cleared and the wreck was taken away the session was restarted at exactly three o’clock…

        Times will follow later.

                And some disturbing news...

                Squadron

Spyker Squadron – the factory GT2 team -, in partnership with its title sponsor SNORAS Bank and Speedy Racing, is proud to present its latest GT2 racer for the most famous and grueling race on the planet: the 24-Hours of Le Mans. In 2008 and 2009 Spyker Squadron will compete with two Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2Rs in both the Le Mans Series (LMS) and the 24-Hours of Le Mans.

The Laviolette GT2R replaces the successful Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R, the first Spyker that earned podium positions for the Dutch manufacturer of exclusive sports cars in the international GT arena. The new Laviolette has been built from the ground up around on a much stiffer, aluminum spaceframe with better aerodynamic qualities. Based on the team‟s knowledge and experience with the previous C8, a long list of components have been changed or improved. The new car is an excellent platform to continuously develop and improve pace to reach the ultimate goal: a podium position at Le Mans.

Spyker Squadron welcomes Lithuanian SNORAS Bank, as its title sponsor for the upcoming season. Like last year Spyker Squadron partners with Alexandre Pesci‟s Swiss dealer team Speedy Racing, sponsored by LEMO and Rebellion Horlogerie.

Car number 85 will be driven by Alexei Vasilev (RUS), Ralf Kelleners (GER) and Peter Dumbreck (GBR). The second car, number 94, will be piloted by Andrea Chiesa (SUI), Benjamin Leuenberger (SUI) and Philippe Camandona (SUI).

Both at Le Mans and in the Le Mans Series the team will use Michelin tires.

After two earlier tests in Estoril and Le Castellet (Paul Ricard) the team will head to Barcelona, Spain within three weeks for the first 1000km race this season: the LMS 1000km de Catalunya.
If I read this correct there will only be 2 cars! Number 85 & 94 (Speedy) and no number 86!

Also the new C8 Laviolette GT2R won't have any test miles on it before the first race in Catalunya because the team only tested with the old 2007 C8 Spyder GT2R!

And the C8 Laviolette GT2R had the old 3.8 liter engine and not the new 4.0!

Although the car looks very nice I still have my doubts...

I'm afraid that I was right. When I looked at the website of the Le Mans Series I saw that they updated the entrylist and there are only 2 Spyker's on the list!
One Spyker Squadron car (#85) and one Speedy Racing Team car (#94).
The drivers of #85 are: Tom Coronel & Peter Dumbrek
Number 86 is nowhere to be found on the list! So I guess there wasn't enough money to enter 2 factory cars. Or maybe there wasn't enough time to build 3 cars.

You can find the information here:

That's sad to hear. Hopely they bring car 86 also to the Le Mans Series or Le Mans.

I know that #86 is on place 6 of the reserve list for Le Mans.

I noticed that Spyker released/updated the technical details of the C8 Laviolette GT2R! We can now see that the engine is indeed 4 liter and not 3.8 like the previous years.
