      Ba12g

I found the following VIN numbers with the BA12G combination:

      069 - XL9BA12G56Z363069 - C8 Double 12
      129 - XL9BA12G86Z363129 - C8 Double 12
      250 - XL9BA12G89Z363250 - C8 Aileron Pre-production
      908 - XL9BA12G49Z363908 - C8 Aileron prototype

12 indicates the LWB models. Note that there is no structural difference in the VIN number between a C8 Double 12 and a C8 Aileron. It seems VIN numbers 250 and higher are reserved for C8 Ailerons though.

      On a sidenote:

VIN numbers ending with 9xx are most likely used for prototypes.

        Nice research, Stephan! Well done!

For a few more new VINs, check the "Unknown VINs found in carfax.com" thread, with additions from Matthias and myself ... I hope it helps a little bit ...

Now a few even more interesting cases: there are several cars of which Carfax has multiple records. It's like #128, but that's not the only one!

        #024, XL9GA11A35Z363024 and XL9AA11G24Z363024
        #026, XL9GA11A75Z363026 and XL9AA11G64Z363026 (not listed yet?)
        #031, XL9GA11A05Z363031 and XL9AA11GX4Z363031
        #033, XL9GA11A45Z363033 and XL9AA11G34Z363033

I guess we're not talking about double cars, but probably the same car with multiple VINs. I've seen that before on Ferraris: the VIN is placed in many locations (not only on registration documents, but also on different parts of the car, like chassis, windshield, bodywork, interior, etc.). Different VINs might be caused by errors or restamps. The four cars mentioned above were all Model Year 2004, then probably changed to MY 2005. This might be done to meet regulations and to be able to import them into the US. But that's mainly a guess ...

There is one more, changed from MY 2007 to MY 2008:
        #162, XL9BA11G08Z363162 and XL9BA11G27Z363162
This explains the discussions in the related thread ...

        A few more interesting cases:
#146, XL9AA11G69Z363146: Model Year 2009, while a car like #153 (XL9AA11G96Z363153) still has Model Year 2006 ... what about that??

And a fun thing found on the internet, regarding #159, XL9BA11G08Z363159:
SPYKER OF NORTH AMERICA INCORPORATI: Detailed Company Information, Imports & Exports

Nice "example shipment"! Anyone with access to that website and able to search for more VINs????

And for those who care, here is the full list of VINs that I found so far on Carfax (97 cars):

        007 XL9GA11A35Z363007
        010 XL9GA11A35Z363010

          Thanks Edvar. Top Notch.

There are a couple of VINs that have been rebuild, hence the 146<->153 story.

I haven't checked your double listed cars yet, but have you had a look to those records in carfax? If there is none or only one at the first entry, but more than one on the other than the other is correct. I had the same today with a Ferrari VIN, when it was listed as a F430 Scuderia with 1 record and as a F430 Spider with 7 or 8 records.

I also believe that #029 is a MY2008 car. This car was the factory demonstrator.

VIN number and the accuracy check

I've made a little excel sheet to check if a VIN number passes the accuracy check.

Keep in mind that while Spyker appears to have the check digit calculation correct, there are numerous cases where small volume manufacturers have gotten the check digit calculation wrong. Edvar van Daalen has discovered that all of the Koenigsegg VINs in my registry have check digits that are 6 or 7 values higher than what they should be. I have also found a number of Bitter SC VINs on CarFax which all have the same check digit of 9 (maybe the new VIN system was so new they didn't understand it yet?). Also, there are at least three Vector W8s and at least one SSC Ultimate Aero with confirmable VINs on CarFax which contain check digits which should be invalid.

Sorry if it has already mentioned, I quickly checked the thread and could notice it (perhaps I missed it), but VIN rules are very different, basically custom made for manufacturers which produce less than 500 cars per year.
I already noticed you worked on a sort of validation code which I have still to check though.

I discovered this while cracking my head in two trying to sort Pagani's VINs, where the digits referring to the factory where the car was built changes from the Coupe models to the Roadster models, even if there is just one Pagani factory (at the moment).

Also, on Zondas, the VIN is positioned on two metal plates but none of them is viewable if not opening one of the two bonnets.
You can actually spot the on on the front wheel arches if the suspensions are raised to clear speed bumps.

Unlike the older SWB and Double 12 VIN numbers, the Aileron VIN's are very consistend, boring even

                          Sofar we found:

                          250 XL9BA12G89Z363250 C8 Aileron Pre-production and later C8 Aileron Spyder
                          251 XL9BA12GX9Z363251 C8 Aileron Pre-production and Lotus testcar
                          252 XL9BA12G19Z363252 C8 Aileron Pre-production
                          253 XL9BA12G39Z363253 C8 Aileron Pre-production
                          254 XL9BA12G59Z363254 C8 Aileron Pre-production

But the newest SWB was completely different than we are used to. So we have to wait and see.
