I just put them back as they were originally designed. With the clock in such a prominent place, I have to reset it after I turned off the master switch.

Good idea moving the fuel guage out of sight of the wife, might be good to move the clock that side too. You can then avoid the "we're late" and the "are you sure we don't need fuel" remarks!!
