Spyker in New York

Victor Muller will speak at the 52nd annual Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving & Chowder Society at Sardi's, New York.

I will bring the #107 to put on exhibit in front of Sardi's, an institution in New York.

Didn't know about it. Have to be in TX. I need a good bit of lead time for events, unless it is summer.

I didn't know about it until a few days ago. It just happens to fit in my schedule.

From Edmunds Inside Line:

NEW YORK — The Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving & Chowder Society — a storied organization for car enthusiasts whose membership has included world champion race drivers, TV personalities and media executives — celebrated its 50th anniversary at Sardi's restaurant in New York City.

Founded in March 1957 by Art Peck, a CBS Radio executive, and King Moore, an advertising professional, the Society helped to generate car enthusiasm in the general media during the 1950s and '60s. In a way, its influence can be registered today by the growth of the New York auto show, which runs from April 9-15.

During the 1970s and '80s, the group was well known for promoting car enthusiasm with unusual and unauthorized races through the streets of Manhattan. Probably the most famous of these occurred on March 24, 1978, when the society organized a crosstown race among five New York City taxicabs, four Ferraris and a Saab. The taxis were driven by career cabbies, while the other cars were driven by society members Phil Hill (who became the first Formula 1 world champion from America in 1961), Janet Guthrie (the first woman to drive in the Indy 500 in 1977), Bob Tullius, Steve Behr (who won the 1972 Cannonball race across the U.S. in a Cadillac Coupe de Ville) and Jacques Vaucher (a dealer in automotive art). The race was won by Behr in the Saab, recalls Bruce Wennerstrom, an early member who now is co-director of the group with his wife, Genia.

Members, who call themselves Chowderheads, have met monthly for lunch at Sardi's, a famous theater-district restaurant, since the Society's inception, on the second Tuesday of each month — always with Manhattan clam chowder at the group's anniversary meal. Vince Sardi, Jr., the proprietor and a racer himself, was one of the original members.

According to Wennerstrom, there were 97 people at the first lunch on March 12, 1957. Today, the group has more than 300 members, mostly media people who are involved with cars either through work or as a hobby, Wennerstrom says. Five of the founding members are still present.

The #107 at Sardi's. They were nice enough to match the rope and the canopy
