Could be, indeed. But what do you owners think? What type of engine is right for the Spyker? What do think of a turbo or supercharger?

![]() I am not saying the Audi 4.2 is bad. Power-to-weight was never an issue with Spyker. It's the choice of a good engine versus a better one. I think that Victor Muller said that the CTS-V engine was also cheaper than a 4.2liter. Assuming build quality and fuel economy is about the same, why would anyone prefer the 4.2? So it's probably time for the 4.2 to go. Last edited by dennis010; 09-03-2010 at 00:20. |

One of the special characteristics of the Audi engine in a C8 is the combination of light weight and enormous torque. You drive a Spyker completely different than a Ferrari. And Spyker should keep it that way. No high revving engines would mean that the GM engine would be a better choice than the BMW engine.
I would say that the Audi R8 with the Audi V8 will drive better than with the Lamborghini V10 in about 80% of the driving on public roads. On the track, the high revving V10 is more fun, but daily driving is on torque and not on HP.

Another option to consider: Talk to Tata about sourcing the new Jaguar DOHC V8's. They are available in three different versions, up to a twin turbo with over 500 horsepower. The DOHC design keeps the Spyker flavor. And Tata might be more willing to make this kind of arrangement.

However GM in the past loved selling crate motors but no powertrain components to make the package work. However they are very close to releasing Z06 and ZR1 components wait for 24 hrs of Le Mans this year. There is growing pressure from quite a few small exotic car manufactures to share the corvette components to be used around the world. Last year the only way you could do this was to purchase a vehicle and strip all the drivetrain and powertrain components and then build up vehicle this works fine for test mules and 1 off vehicles, but for Spyker and many other companies like them, GM would need to agree to sell the whole package. So I posted a year ago this would not be possible, well never say never. P.S. Matt thanks for the Panoz Duramax Picture |

Figured you would like that one!
It should be noted that Mosler makes use of GM's LS6/LS7 for the MT900S. Don't know what the arrangement is there, but obviously we're talking about production on a much smaller scale than even what Spyker is aiming for. I wouldn't have a problem with the GM engines in Spykers, but it seems like the Jaguar engine would be a better fit in spirit, and quite easy to arrange logistically with Spykers now being built in Coventry. |

Spyker confirmed the Aileron will be fitted with the Cadillac CTS-V engine.
For the Dutchies among us: Spyker is eruit: de Aileron krijg een Cadillac-motor » Autoblog.nl Most interesting bits: -It will be the CTS-V engine, so not the ZR-1 engine. The ZR-1 engine has a dry-sump whereas the CTS-V hasn't -Spyker wanted to put the BMW 4,4 litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine (X5 M) in the Aileron, but can't pull it off in time. -When the GM engine will be fitted is as yet not known. -VM wants to take the Aileron racing. His plan is to co-develop the GT2 version with a racing team. It's not really clear if by that he means the works Spyker Squadron or an altogether different team.
