Because I regulary visit a McGregor-shop in Bussum, I received today a poster with on one side a GT2-R, and on the other side some pictures of Coronel (some of the pictures who were showing in this topic earlier )

I always wanted a poster of a Spyker C8 Spyder. Too bad that those aren't for sale . But a GT2-R is also fine by me

        I only have Eurosport 1

        Some update from France:
Finally it stop raining - right in time. All drivers arrived on the circuit and the team will leave the track at 15:00 for 'le Pesage'.
        (yesterday)

The team passed all administrative checks and technical scruteneering. Again impressive showers today but after Wednesday it will be fine!
        (today)

And a nice video from the preparations in the factory before they left to Le Mans.

Tom Coronel interviewed for the Le Mans 24 hour race

What are your feelings about this year's 24 Hours?
I think wev’e got a good chance. Le Mans is a race we’re very well prepared for. There’s a very beautiful field of cars in LM GT2 this year so I believe it is going be quite a hard race but for the Spyker the best preparation starts now with the testing sessions. We made some changes compared to Le Mans Series but it should be OK! The car is well prepared, we are feeling good even if we don't know what happen at Le Mans. But if we’ve a chance, it gonna be this year or never.

You drove for Racing for Holland, and now for Snoras Spyker…

When I ran for RfH, it was a LM P1 and this year it’s a LM GT2 so it’s totally different but spirit’s still the same because you always have to go the fastest you can.

You made some changes during winter?

We changed almost everything because regulations have been changed and when regulations change, you have to be very clever and fast to adapt your car. But we can't be compared to Ferrari or Porsche which are mich bigger, it’s nearly impossible for such a modest car like ours to compete with them but we’ll never give up. Team’s spirit is really good, they always are fighting. Even if they know they going to loose, they still survive.

What do you expect for the race?

We’ve got only one objective, to finish. We can’t be competitive on speed criteria, we must be clever and take profit from others’ mistakes. It gonna be our strategy, it doesn’t matter if we’re 5 seconds a lap slower as long as we’re still racing. We have to be good during pit stops and double relays. We know that Porsches and Ferraris are going to run at full-speed and and when they make mistakes, we’ll take advantage of it.

Snoras Spyker Squadron Le Mans Preview

Last Friday the SNORAS Spyker Squadron exchanged their base in Holland for the ‘Circuit de la Sarthe’ just South of Le Mans, France, for their participation in the most gruelling races of all; the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Dutch team has been invited by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) to enter one Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R in the 24 hour race. The car will be driven by Spyker Squadron Le Mans Series-regulars Tom Coronel and Jarek Janis. The pair will be accompanied by 2009 LMP2 winner Jeroen Bleekemolen.

Most of the weekend was used to unload the trucks, set up the pit box and install all equipment. Yesterday the team’s GT2 car was transported to the Le Mans city centre for the traditional ‘le pasage’ - the technical checks. Under the eyes of thousands of people the car passed the technical and administrative checks to be invited to the six-hour free practice session on Wednesday.

Whilst scruteneering continued for other teams on Tuesday - Spyker Squadron used their time to finalise the preparation of spare parts that might be required in the next days; Le Mans got its fair share of bad weather the last days and there is an 80 percent change for rain today. Fortunately better weather is expected towards the race.

The team will start the six-hour free practice session to complete all sorts of system checks. Parts of the 13.6 kilometre long track are public roads with little grip and it takes time before the track improves to such level that one can start working on the setup of the car. Towards the end of the session, after ten o’clock, all three drivers need to complete three mandatory laps in dark conditions.

Peter van Erp, Managing Director Spyker Squadron: “We are back at Le Mans and our class is as strong as ever. Ten Ferrari F430’s, five Porsche 911’s the Aston Martin and a Spyker C8 are a guarantee for spectacle and competition in our class. We will therefor focus on the race and everything we do in free practice and qualifying is aimed towards having the best possible setup for the race. I am happy that we have a very experienced drive line-up this year. Jarek Janis is back with the team to join Dutchman Tom Coronel, he proofed to be fit during our successful pre-Le Mans test in Monza. I am also extremely proud that Jeroen Bleekemolen, last years LMP2 winner and Porsche GT specialist, joined the team”.

Eurosport will broadcast most of the free practice sessions, qualifying and the race live one of their channels. For more Spyker Squadron updates do not forget to drop by our VIMEO and TWITTER pages which we will be updating regularly.

Spyker is third in class, but then it started raining. So not all the GT2 teams had a chance to set a quick time.

The practice lasts until 24:00 tonight. Let's wait and see what happens.

Le Mans 24 Hours Free Practice

Spyker finished in a very credible third place in a mainly wet free practice.
All three drivers were able to put their mandatory three laps in the dark in,
                          and are qualified to race.

Early in the session Jarek Janis was sent out in order to give him some track time in the Spyker.
Apart from a free practice session at Barcelona and the pre-Le Mans test at Monza,
Jarek did not have any time in the Spyker yet.

Jarek took things easy to get settled in and put a 4:34,902 on the board, before handing over to Tom Coronel.
Tom was up to speed very fast and put, what turned out to be, the fastest lap-time of the Spyker in: 4:13,196.
                          - Edit: Apparantly (see post #30) it was Jarek Janis and not Tom Coronel who set the fastest time of the Spyker -

When Jeroen Bleekemolen got in the car, the weather worsened quickly and times were not to be bettered.
Jeroen was nevertheless very fast in the wet, putting lap-times in that could not be matched by the competitors.

So very well done Spyker boys!

Do you know how many laps the Spyker did? And how does that compare to the competition?

Spyker did 43 laps which is pretty average in the GT2 field.
