I love your pictures, Fiona! Such stories and experiences you've had . . .
Someday, I hope to visit some of these places, too. That "trek around the world bug" bites hard!

Another day, another VW garage. Penang island, Malaysia
![]() Pedro limped the rest of the way to Singapore leaving a trail of oil behind him. I then waved him off on a cargo ship to Southampton while I flew on to Australia. It had been my plan to ship him on to Oz but following serious delays in China I only had 2 weeks left before I had to return to work. ![]() ![]() So Pedro ended the rally in a shipping container while I ended it on stradbrooke island near Brisbane ![]() ![]() with one of my oldest friends who now lives there ![]() Of course now all I can think about is where next? My current thinking is the Pan-american highway It may be a couple of years before I can find the time or money to do it though ![]() Of course should Spyker request my services to test their Peking - Paris model before then I'd be happy to oblige

There was a '69 Bug on the run too ![]() What a shame they didn't do Tibet and Mount Everest this time. I can understand why though, China is a nightmare for beaurocracy, especialy when it comes to Tibet. The Himalayas are tough on a car too, the altitude affects the mixture, even Pedro had to suffer the indignity of being towed up one particularly steep incline by a passing 4x4. I did the Viking tour with Petrolhead Nirvana this year and there is definitely something to be said for paying your money and letting someone else take care of the red tape, book nightly hotels, look after you should you breakdown or become ill. It's still an epic journey, even fully supported a route like that is still a challenge. Of course you pay extra for the priviledge. I've looked into doing the Peking-Paris and other historic endurance rallies before. My journey was longer and yet cost me about a third of the price ![]() The only part of their route I haven't driven before is Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and would really love to head that way one day. Also I've driven through Northern Kazakhstan but didn't make it as far south as the Aral sea. I've driven across North Western Mongolia, reputedly the toughest route, where there are no roads but would love to cross the Gobi desert too. I would love to return to Everest base camp too and spend more time there, this time with a decent guide and prepared for the altitude sickness, now there's an amazing backdrop! Mongolia provides stunning photographic landscapes at every turn, the Aral sea would also make a great back drop for publicity photo's, as would the Karakoram highway(another on my must do list) and the beautiful mosques in Samarkand. Though Everest is clearly the winner when it comes to amazing landscapes. You see my thinking? What a great promo tour for the new Spyker Peking-Paris ........please Mr Muller, Mr Van-Rennes, Let me do it. I'll bring back lots of gorgeous photos and video footage(well it is my day job)
