Lotus sales in the US

I came across these sales numbers for the Lotus Elise in the US. It seems that not only the economy is bad, but also that the market is saturated for a light weight, MANUAL transmission sports car in the US.

Does this also say something about the US market for Spyker? I understand from Victor that all orders for the Aileron are still for 100% Automatic (With the exception of Joe).

'05-2300+ cars sold
'06-1400+ cars sold
'07-755 cars sold
'08-500 cars sold
'09-250+ cars sold
'10-TBD but I guarantee you it will not be more than '08 figures

Scary

Those are indeed worrying figures.

But on the other hand: why buy a new Elise after a few years when you already own one? Let's face it, the Elise has not (really) been changed since it came to market in the US. There is no facelift and no successor for the hard core purist.

If I had bought an Elise in 2005 myself (I wish I had ), I wouldn't buy a new one now. The one from 2005 was probably still below 15k miles. So no need to buy a new because of the mileage and no need to buy a new one because of upgrades / new versions or whatsoever.

I would still love to own a 2010 Elise. But that's only because I didn't buy one before.

In 2008 around 500 cars in the entire US wow!

It does confirms how good it is that Spyker made sure the new C8 is available with an automatic!
Btw I didn't know Joe placed an order for an aileron

Also did not know Joe placed an order for an Aileron, but he is my new hero

On the Elise, I was seriously considering one some years ago, got a chance to drive one on a track and spun it out so many times, I thought I'd kill myself if I owned one

Same for me with motorcycles, would love to own a Ducati Superbike, but the last 2 times I got on a bike I crashed!

Also thought this was interesting:

I have very fond memories of my 1964 Lotus Elan S2. It had been modified by Brabham, 144 bhp for 540 kilos ..
I also had the chance to drive it on a circuit, Dijon, and yes I lost it at in the "Double-droite de Villeroy" at the end of the long straight.
But what fun ..

Bikes, yes, I used to race Matchless G50s and a Manx Norton ... but that's another story in another life :-)

Shouldn't we be viewing these sales for the total of the sold Lotuses in the USA? I'm sure the other models (Evora?, Europa?, Exige etc.). I saw on LotusCars.com that the Evora is due in 2010 and the Europa isn't for sale in the US (looking at the models name, quite obviously ). I'm not saying that when taking in account the Evora and the Exige, the numbers will increase hugely, but still I think it would be interesting to look at the whole picture. Maybe some sales shifted from the Elise to the Exige for instance (I'm not sure if this is logically or to be expected though).
