As some of you might know, Queen Beatrix's Golden carriage was built by the brothers Spijker who also created the classic Spykers. It was a gift from the city of Amsterdam to Queen Wilhelmina. At first she turned it down because of socialists protests. When she got married in 1901 she finally did accept the carriage and used it for the wedding. From 1903 until now, every year the carriage is used for 'Prinsjesdag'. It still looks exactly the same as it did in 1898: at the time it already had rubber tyres and electricity.

If you're interested there is a Dutch book about the carriage called 'De Gouden Koets: Van Amsterdams geschenk tot nationaal symbool' or 'The Golden carriage: from a gift from Amsterdam to national symbol'. As far as I know, only available in Dutch.
